fitness gadget obsession: polar ft4 heart rate monitor

Back in the day, I used to enjoy that day in gym class where we would learn about our heart rate and measure our heart rate my checking out pulse with our fingers. I think it was because it was the one time in gym where I excelled 🙂

Times have changed since then and heart rate monitors are commonplace in the gym. I had gotten rid on an old one that I had when it stopped working and was in the market for a new one a few months ago. After doing some quick research on Amazon, I decided to purchase the Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor.

Key Features:

  • Tracks workout duration, calories burned, amount of time in target heart rate zone
  • Displays real time heart rate while working out
  • Allows you to store your information so you don’t have to enter your height/weight every time

What It’s Good At: Calculating calorie burn during a workout. Much better than a fitbit for activities like weightlifting or exercise on a stationary machine

What It’s Not Good At: This does not sync automatically with fitness trackers. If you are looking for a heart rate monitor that syncs wirelessly, I recommend the Polar H7 which syncs with your phone/other bluetooth devices

You can buy it on Amazon or other sporting goods retailers.

Do you use a heart rate monitor? If so, which one do you use and what do you like/not like about it?
