If your office is anything like mine, it is a constant source of temptation. My desk is right next to the kitchen so I can always smell the delicious things in there like free pizza or cake. But part of being able to resist temptation is making sure that you’re prepared. I’ve managed to avoid temptation by keeping a few things on hand
Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about raw almonds. A ¼ cup serving has 160 calories and provides 6g protein, 3g fiber, and is a good source of Vitamin E and Magnesium. It’s a great snack to have when you need a little pick me up and will give you sustained energy in a way that a bag of chips or pretzels from the vending machine simply will not
Forgot your lunch? Not a problem when you keep these in your desk drawer. They are a great source of protein. If possible, get wild-caught. Not only is it better for the environment, but it is better for you since wild caught fish is a better source of omega-3. I got some Wild Planet Wild Albacore Tuna pouches from Target. Each 3 oz pouch has 130 calories and 20g of protein.
Olive Oil & Vinegar
Olive oil and vinegar are great because they are a naturally low-sugar salad dressing option. And they don’t need to be refrigerated like other dressings. Feel free to get crazy with it (check out the great oils from Olive-n-Grape that I used in my Grilled Chicken 3 Ways recipe).
No-Sugar Added Dried Fruit
Dried fruit is another great thing to keep around. Dried fruit can be a little tricky. Make sure that there is no added sugar in the processing (otherwise it’s basically candy). You can mix your fruit and nuts together for an impromptu trail mix.
Protein Powder & Blender Bottle
Protein powder is another great thing to keep around for those times when you need something to keep you going. I usually have some as an afternoon snack. I love the Advocare Muscle Gain protein powder (especially the convenient pouches) in Chocolate and the blender bottle makes it easier to mix well. I got mine from Amazon here
